Beauty Is More Than Skin Deep

March 28, 2019

Beauty is more than skin deep when it comes to the health and appearance of your skin. True skin transformation is possible when we combine various modalities, such as topical skin care, diet, lifestyle and new methods of external skin treatment. In this issue we will take a look at a few areas you may not have considered previously, assisting you to age with attitude.

In order to resist premature ageing, heal and thrive, the skin needs a wide range of nutrients. When your body is not getting enough of the nutrients it needs for good health and radiant skin it may reveal this through dull, lifeless, inflamed or spotty skin. Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) are the good fats for the health of the hair, skin, nails and brain functioning. Omega 3 and omega 6 are EFA’s and cannot be made by the body and need to be supplied through a healthy diet. Omega 3 and 6 will assist the skin by moisturising from within, improving barrier function, keep the skin supple, hydrated and smooth, will assist with the healing and anti-inflammatory protective layer of the skin, prevent skin congestion and breakouts, and will make cell walls more permeable ensuring nutrients can be absorbed and waste to be removed. A few natural sources of Omega 3 and 6 can be found in unrefined cold pressed flax and safflower seeds and fatty fish such as sardines.

At the intersection between beauty and technology comes a new treatment from the USA called Rezenerate Nano-facial. Rezenerate will work well on fine lines, signs of ageing, blemishes, malnourished skin, uneven skin tone and texture. This new treatment is pain free and has very limited downtime with only a little pink colour after the treatment for 24 hours. Rezenerate treatment for optimum results is performed once every 2 weeks for 3 treatments. A radiant, hydrated and healthy skin will be revealed after the first treatment.

Unfortunately, what our tastebuds crave, does not mean that it is good for us. Consuming sugar, particularly refined sugar, is one of the worst foods we can eat for the health of our skin and body. When we consume sugar, in all its forms, it attaches itself to our proteins and fats in the body and creates a process called glycation. The really bad news is that sugar has an affiliation for dermal proteins. The by-products of glycation stiffens connective tissue, creates inflammation, wrinkles and sagging. The perfect sugar storm is exacerbated when smoking, drug use, lack of exercise, prolonged UV damage and stress are added to the cocktail. By eliminating refined sugar, and keeping the complex carbohydrates in our diet, will supply the much needed glucose to fuel cellular activity throughout the body and skin to assist with maintaining its natural youthfulness and tone. Being consistent with a healthy balanced diet can help to counteract the negative effects of refined sugar consumption.

Drawing on over 30 years of science, the BIOPTRON light therapy system is emerging as a successful and complimentary method of treating skin disorders effectively, without pain and downtime. The benefits of light extend beyond a sense of comfort and wellbeing. Light is an essential part of our natural biological systems and its absence can have serious effects on our body and the normal physiological processes within it. BIOPTRON can improve the microcirculation, reinforce the human defence system, stimulate regenerative and reparative processes of the entire organism, promote wound healing and relieves pain or at least decreases its intensity. Specific skin disorders that may be assisted with the use of light therapy are mucosal lesions, acne rosacea, acne, superficial bacterial infections, herpes zoster, herpes simplex, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Science has also had excellent results with the BIOPTRON in treating Seasonal Affective Disorder. BIOPTRON can be used at both home, in the doctor’s office and the skin clinic.

When aiming for harmonizing the body and mind through internal and external efforts, the quality of our lives and skin will be improved. Life is about change, and through positive influences our skin can maintain its health and radiance, revealing the best version of ourselves.
